Is a
Different Home in Your Plans This Year?
By Ann Smith,

It’s a new year and time for new beginnings…so that could mean a move is in
sight for 2009. Perhaps the thought is only an inkling at the back of
your mind right now, but the thought is still there. Is it time to
start packing and look for a larger home, a different neighbourhood, or a
home that has the private yard you’ve always dreamed of? Now is the time to
take action, but I’m not talking about hiring a mover just yet.
The best way to be prepared is to look at the home you’re currently living
in as if you are a first-time guest. Put your coat on, walk out to
the curb and look at your home with fresh eyes. What is your first
impression?
It’s a good idea to note things like peeling paint or overgrown bushes and
start a list for work when the snow is gone. Then enter your front door,
take off your boots, and check out the house.
·
Are
there any rooms that would benefit from a fresh coat of paint?
·
Are
doors and windows in good working order?
·
Does
extensive clutter make the rooms seem claustrophobic?
·
Are
there any stains on carpets or area rugs?
·
Do
toilets and taps work properly without leaks?
·
Are
there minor fix-it jobs you’ve been putting off?
You get the idea. Now is the time to take a look at your home and get
the job – or jobs – done. Don’t wait until you put your home on the
market and then panic trying to cram all the work in a rush. And it’s
a good idea to talk to your Realtor about the benefits of buying in the
current market.
Just think, if you
decide to list your house for sale, you’re ready. And if you decide
to stay put for another year, you’ve just eliminated your “to do” list and
can enjoy the warm spring weather that will be here soon.
