Organizing Warranties & Manuals Make a Distinct Impression
By Ann Smith,

Whether you’re buying or
selling a home, being able to quickly access all appliance manuals and
warranty information is a smart move. Potential buyers want to know what
type of warranty is included on your appliances, and likewise, if you’re
buying a home that includes appliances, you want to know how well they’ve
been maintained and what value they bring to the deal.
Organizing these documents is simple. All it takes is a large three-ring
binder, index divider tabs, clear page sleeves, letter-sized blank paper,
and a Sharpie marker.
Here’s an example of a stove purchase for your home:
-
Write STOVE on an index card
tab and insert in binder.
-
Staple the purchase receipt
to a letter-sized paper. Write the important details on the paper next to
the receipt. These include date of purchase, where purchased, and cost of
stove. While this information is on the receipt, writing it beside it
makes that information easier to read – especially if it fades in time.
Insert into a clear sleeve and place in the binder behind the index tab.
-
Insert the owner’s manual
booklet into another clear sleeve and place this behind the receipt page.
(Having the owner’s manual is a huge bonus when trying to figure out how
to use an appliance for the first time!)
-
If repair work has been
required, add these documents in another sleeve behind the manual.
This system of documenting
major appliance purchases can be used on other purchases as well – both
major and minor.
When purchasers are presented with such a binder they’ll view the house and
home owner in a positive light. It not only shows the owner as being
organized but also as someone who would have made sure the home has been
well taken care of as well – and that definitely brings value to the deal.
