10 Tips to Sell Your Home Quickly
By Ann Smith, Broker
When you decide to
sell, you want it to happen quickly. So, what can you do to make the
process faster? Simply follow these tips to give a great first
impression…because first impressions do count.
1.
Curb
appeal – look at the outside of your home as if it’s the first time you’ve
seen it. Re-paint the front door. Fix broken steps or walkways. Tidy
flowerbeds. Cut the grass/shovel snow. Clean eaves troughs. Place a large
planter by the front door.
2.
Clear the
front hall. Footwear and jackets should be stored out of sight. Check the
walls for dirt or scuff marks.
3.
De-clutter! That means removing knick knacks and collectibles, family
photos, and other items that take up space.
4.
Always be
prepared – the entire house should be tidy, dusted, and vacuumed for last
minute showings.
5.
Make your
kitchen sparkle – clear the counters, remove dish towels from view, and
shine the taps and sink. And don’t forget to remove finger prints from
appliances and cupboards.
6.
Spend
extra time in the bathroom. Check taps, mirrors, floors, shower
doors/curtains, walls, etc.
7.
Everyone
checks the closets. Remove extra clothing to make closets seem larger.
Fold everything in the linen closet – a neat closet shows that a home has
been well taken care of.
8.
Create
open spaces – this is a good time to hold a garage sale or put extra
furniture in storage.
9.
Make sure
your home is well lit. Open the curtains, wash the windows, and if
necessary, add extra lighting to brighten the space.
Eliminate odors –
nobody likes a stinky home. Think of cooking smells, cigarette smoke,
garbage, diapers, and pet odors. A fresh smelling home gives the
impression of a well-kept home.
